compound released from the ends of nerve fibers and involved in the
transmission of nerve impulses.
back to
top.
Acid mantle / lipid
barrier
= A protective oily layer on the skin's
surface which functions as a protectorate against environmental
impurities and helps regulate moisture loss and water retention.
back to
top.
Activated Charcoal
= Activated charcoal is
charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny
pores between the carbon atoms. A material attaches itself by chemical
attraction and it is adsorbed. The huge surface area of activated
charcoal gives it countless bonding sites. Activated charcoal is good
at trapping other carbon-based impurities ("Organic"
chemicals), as well as things like chlorine. Many other chemicals are
not attracted to carbon at all -- sodium, nitrates, etc. -- so they
pass right through. This means that an activated charcoal filter will
remove certain impurities while ignoring others, so it doesn't break
down your Acid mantle.
This makes Activated Charcoal fabulous for acneic skin.

Alginates
= Components that provide
moisture and elasticity to the skin.
back to

Allantoin (Ureidohydantoi-Comfrey)
= Allantoin is an
extract of the comfrey plant and is used for its healing, soothing,
and anti-irritating properties.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA)
= Have exfoliation and
therapeutic properties which help with, and minimize photo damaged
skin, which is a major contributing factor to aging. Apart from
ridding the skin of unnecessary dead cells, they also have a
moisturizing effect on the skin, by increasing the moisture content of
the upper skin and so smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, as well
as reducing dryness and combating flakiness. Long-term use of low
concentration AHA's can also increase collagen and elastin
synthesis, and also boost protein regeneration in the skin. Alpha Hydroxy Acids
used by von Natur include: Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid and
Glycolic Acid.
Naturally AHA’s occur in Bilberry Extract, Lemon Extract,
Orange Extract, Sugar Cane Extract and Sugar Maple Extract.
back to
top.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (Thioctic
Acid)
= Powerful
antioxidant that is
active against a broad spectrum of
Free radicals in both
water as well as oil surroundings. It is readily transported through
cellular membranes and helps to recycle other
Antioxidants. For
instance, when vitamin E quenches lipid peroxidation, and a
vitamin E
radical is formed, Alpha
Lipoic Acid will reduce it back to the active state of
vitamin E. The
same reaction occurs in the presence of the
antioxidant,
vitamin C. Human cell consists of various parts, and these parts
are either water or lipid based. Alpha Lipoic Acid
this can work to protect against free radical damage. If
the concentration and presence of
Free radicals can be
contained within the cell, far less
Oxidative stress and
damage will be caused to the skin. This will result in aging being
retarded at cellular level, as
Oxidative stress is one
of the leading causes of wrinkles.

Aloe Juice
= Used to relieve burning,
itching, minor cuts, and first and second degree burns. Recent studies
indicate that Aloe Vera has the ability to accelerate cell growth in
the skin, by penetrating the skin and stimulating the immune system &
increasing blood circulation. Its anti-aging effects are due to
increase in collagen synthesis & skin elasticity.

skin’s radiance, minimize age spots, sun spots and fine lines. Antioxidants used by von Natur

the skin -- whether by stabilizing the membranes, boosting
acetylcholine, reducing
lipofuscin deposits or none of the
above. Whatever the mechanism, the effect of DMAE is often noticeable

Hyaluronic acid is a Polysaccharide that contains
amino acids. It is one of the
components of the skin's dermis. Hyaluronic acid is a natural extract
used in skin care products. The percentage of hyaluronic acid in the
skin is closely related to the hydration (water content) of skin.
Hyaluronic acid retains water in the intercellular matrix of the
dermis. It creates a visco-elastic solution that fills the spaces
between the collagen fibers in the dermis. It can penetrate the
stratum
corneum, because of the molecular weight and create a
protective film comparable to the epidermal structure. Scientific
tests and biopsies have shown increased glycosaminoglycans (amino)
sugars made hyaluronic acid in the dermis, as well as increased
hydration and better elasticity of the skin. Some
amino acids such as hyaluronic acid
naturally prevent soluble collagen from changing into insoluble
collagen. Hyaluronic acid also makes collagen fibers more supple and
hydrates the tissues. The suppleness, softness and smoothness of the
skin is increased as well. Scientific studies show that the highest
quality of polysaccharides and
hyaluronic acid, when used in a cream, increases the content of water
in the dermis and increases the skin's elasticity.
